Robert Rueter

Robert’s practice encompasses over 35 years of litigating before courts and tribunals in complex civil litigation cases in areas including corporate/commercial and securities litigation, fraud, bankruptcy, construction, architects and engineering claims, estate litigation, professional liability, auditors negligence, copyright infringement, constitutional and civil liberties, trade disputes and regulatory affairs.  Robert is also a leader in the area of defamation litigation.

Robert has appeared at all levels of courts in Ontario, Alberta and Quebec, and the Federal Court of Canada. Robert has appeared in a number of cases before the Supreme Court of Canada. As senior litigation counsel, Robert’s expertise is in advocacy, applied across a full array of civil litigation subject matter.

Robert received a B.A. (Honours) from York University in 1972 and a J.D. from the University of Toronto in 1975. Following his call to the Ontario Bar in 1977, Robert clerked at the Court of Appeal for Ontario. He was called to the Alberta Bar in 1986 and received courtesy calls to the Quebec Bar in 1990 and the Nova Scotia Bar in 1991.

Robert has lectured in evidence, trial advocacy and negotiation theory at Osgoode Hall Law School and at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. He has been a member of the University Health Network’s Research Ethics Board and the Ethical Review Committee of the University of Toronto’s Office of Research Services.
